Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing counselling or an assessment often brings up questions. Here are some of the most common ones about our counselling and assessment service. If your question isn’t listed, please don't hesitate to reach out—I’d be glad to help.

Counselling FAQs

What kinds of counselling do you offer?

I provide counselling in Calgary and online across Alberta for individuals and couples. My focus areas include trauma therapy, neurodiversity-affirming counselling (such as ADHD and autism), relationship support, guidance through major life transitions and the grief that many experience as they explore these issues.

What does “trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming” mean?

Being trauma-informed means therapy moves at a pace that respects your boundaries and lived experiences. Neurodiversity-affirming counselling recognizes that brains and bodies work in many different ways, and I adapt therapy to support—not change—those differences.

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

People often start therapy when life feels overwhelming, confusing, or heavy. Counselling can help with emotional regulation, processing grief (including late-diagnosed neurodiversity), or working through trauma. I offer a free 20-minute consultation so you can ask questions and see if counselling feels like a good fit.

Do you offer in-person and online sessions?

Yes. Sessions are available in person at my Calgary office (near the Southland LRT) or virtually anywhere in Alberta. Online therapy is confidential, flexible, and can be just as effective as in-person counselling. I am happy to discuss what works best for you during our free 20 minute consultation. You can also move back and forth between the two depending on your needs.

How much does counselling cost?

Counselling is billed at $200 per 60 minute session (I do not conduct 50 minute sessions), with some sliding scale options available. Many insurance plans cover counselling with a Registered Provisional Psychologist—please check with your provider for details

Assessment FAQs

What types of assessments do you provide?

I offer psychological assessments for teens and adults, including ADHD, PTSD and other trauma related disorders, psychoeducational, anxiety, depression and other assessments.

How do assessments work?

An assessment typically includes an intake session, formal testing (in person or online, depending on the assessment), and a feedback session. You’ll also receive a written report with results and recommendations.

Why might I need an assessment?

People seek assessments for many reasons, including clarity around learning challenges, mental health concerns, disability supports (such as AISH or CRA applications), or treatment planning.

How long does an assessment take?

Most assessments involve several steps. The process usually includes an intake session, testing sessions (ranging from 2–6 hours depending on the type of assessment), and a feedback session to review results. You will also receive a written report with recommendations.

Do you provide letters or documentation for school or workplace supports?

Yes. Assessment reports can be used to access accommodations at school, work, or through disability support programs such as AISH or the CRA Disability Tax Credit. I provide clear, comprehensive documentation to support your needs.

What age groups do you assess?

I provide assessments for teens and adults. If you are looking for assessments for younger children, I can help connect you with appropriate providers.

Are assessments covered by insurance?

Coverage depends on your provider. Many insurance plans cover assessments by a Registered Provisional Psychologist, though some plans may only cover counselling. Other plans will have seperate coverage for counselling and assessments. It’s best to check directly with your provider.
